John Lindsey holds the highest rank conferred upon a faculty member in the State University of New York system. The SUNY Distinguished Service Professor. Professor Lindsey has been on the violin faculty at the internationally known Crane School of Music since 1981. In 1993 he was award the SUNY Potsdam President's Award for Excellence in Teaching , in 2003 the prestigious State University of New York Chancellor's Award also for Excellence in Teaching.
In 1973, he was awarded the annual Mozart Award by Wilkes College ( Now King College in Wilkes-Barre, PA) He was recognized by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England. With the 2003 International Musician of the Year Award. and with the Mozart Award for Musical Achievement in the Fall of 2008. In 1989 he was select from over 200 applicants as the winner of the City of Dayton Ohio 's Annual Allegro Residency for the Arts.
Mr. Lindsey is in great demand as a concertmaster, soloist, and chamber musician, as well as teacher, chamber music coach. He is presently the Concertmaster of the ELEVA chamber Players (VT), a string orchestra which play without conductor, and the Orchestra of Northern New York (NY). He has served as concertmaster of the Lexington (KY) Philharmonic Orchestra, The Dallas (TX) Chamber Soloist, The Warren (OH) Chamber Orchestra, the Champlain Valley Symphony Orchestra (NY), the Castle Farm Festival Orchestra (MI), the Belleayre Summer Festival Orchestra (NY), and the Hanover (NH) Chamber Orchestra, In 1973 Mr. Lindsey was Concertmaster of an Orchestra which tour Israel and Jordan. The final concert was given at the Cultural Palace in the Amman for His Majesty King Hussein of Jordan. In 1978 he played chamber music for Prince Philip of England.
Mr. Lindsey has appeared solo recital in many locations. Among them are the Carnegie Recital Hall (twice), Bruon Walter Auditorium in Lincoln Center (five times) as well as in Boston, Montreal, Dallas and in the Chicago on the Dame Myre Hess Series at the Chicago Public Library. Prior to his appointment as the Crane School of Music, Mr. Lindsey was Chairman of String at Baylor University, the Governor's School of North Carolina, and the University of Kentucky. He also taught strings in the Dallas Texas, Publish School. he has been first Violinist of the Aurora Quintet, the Lexington String Quartet, the Quartetto de Camera, the Postdam Piano Quartet, and the Concord Piano Trio. Mr. is listed in eleven national and international Who's Who Publications, among them. Who's Who in American Music , International Who's Who of Intellectuals, The Dictionary of Distinguished Americans, The Cambridge Who's Who, and Who's Who international Music. Professor Lindsey has presented master classes in numerous locations for many years. Since 1994, he has been heavily involved in various capacities with the founding and special nurturing of the string program for
St. Lucia School of Music in the West Indies.
In the Summer, Mr. Lindsey is performing member of the violin faculties of the Ameropa Festival in Prague (CZ), the Adult Chamber Music Conference at Interlochen in Michigan, and the Mozart Festival in Woodstock, Vermont. In previous he was a member of the faculty of the 2008 International Chamber Music Festival and Concert Tour in Bulgaria, the Ithaca Chamber Institute (NY), the National Music Camp at Interlochen (MI), the Illinois Summer Youth Chamber Music Camp(IL), Ottawa Suzuki Institute(KS), the Skaneateles Festival (NY), the Southeastern Music Camp (GA), the Manitou Festival (MI), the Stage de Musique in Marcillat -en-Combraille, France, and the Canna International Music Festivalin Canna, Italy. Mr. Lindsey and his wife Amornrat have founded and International Chamber Music Festival in Thailand, which is held annually in Thailand during the winter holiday season.
this coming summer he has been invited to be on the Artist Faculty of the Vianden International Chamber Music Festival in Lexembourg, Saarburger International Music Festival and School in Germany and to appear in recitals and present master classes both in Thailand and in the People's Republic of China.
