International Chamber Music Festival and Concert Tour in Bulgaria

July 7 – July 26, 2008.

This festival will be held in the town of Gabrovo, with concert tours and sight-seeing trips to historic sites in mountain regions and the Black Sea.

The program is open to musicians of high school and college ages, offering intensive chamber music training, performances throughout Bulgaria, and a unique cultural experience. The seven festival concerts, including a combined concert with the Gabrovo Chamber Orchestra, will take place in Gabrovo, Koprivshtitza, Tryavna, Sozopol, and other locations.

This year's round of prestigious Chancellor's Awards honored four faculty and staff members at SUNY Potsdam. SUNY Chancellor Robert L. King awarded Dr. David Fregoe, professor of English and communications, and John Lindsey, professor of music, the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching; Marc Leuthold, assistant professor of art, the Chancellor's Award for Scholarship and Creative Activities; and Kathryn Perry, assistant vice president of the Office of Human Resources, the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

Several members of SUNY Potsdam's faculty and staff recently received honors from the SUNY Chancellor and the SUNY Board of Trustees. Pictured (l to r) are Dr. Vasily Cateforis, who was promoted to the rank Distinguished Teaching Professor; Dr. Joseph Hildreth, who was promoted to the rank of Distinguished Service Professor; Dr. John A. Dr. Fregoe's devotion to the teaching of communication studies is rivaled only by his dedication to the success of his students. Through his hard work, thorough knowledge and use of contemporary examples, Dr. Fregoe provides his students with an unparalleled learning experience.

For the past 15 years, Dr. Fregoe has been the heart and soul of the communication program at SUNY Potsdam. When he first arrived, there were some communication courses, but no program. Under his leadership, a communication minor was first designed, followed by a communication major. Through his efforts as the program's coordinator, Dr. Fregoe continues shaping the major and the various courses offered within the major.

Lindsey is an outstanding example of an artist teacher. He is an exceptional violinist who is sought after by many for his musical talents. Lindsey also is an extraordinary educator who believes in using his wealth of experience and knowledge in the process of teaching.

As a faculty member, Lindsey is very willing to share his talent with his students. He always is willing to accommodate the schedules of his students to ensure that they receive the instruction they desire. Lindsey previously has been recognized for his musical proficiency and academic excellence, receiving the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1993 and, this year, the International Musician of the Year Award from the International Biographical Center in England.

Leuthold is a creative and highly respected artist who has established an international reputation in ceramics. Diligent and passionate about his craft, Leuthold works to exacting standards, making his art unique and highly desired.

During his 15-year career, Leuthold's ceramic art has been displayed in more than 80 regional, national and international exhibits. Recently, he installed solo exhibits at the Everson Museum in Syracuse and the Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art at Alfred University. Leuthold also has participated in the Ceramic Millennium Germany Caravan Project and the International Ceramic Symposium in Turkey. A member of the International Academy of Ceramics, he recently traveled to Japan as an artist in residence. It is a testament to his growing reputation in the field that Leuthold served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Princeton University in the spring of 2001 and has been invited to return.

Perry is known as a person who truly believes in the precepts of human resources and she lives them every day. For over 25 years, Perry has served SUNY Potsdam in the Office of Human Resources. She is well known for her readiness to address the challenges of a diverse faculty and staff, as well as her tireless efforts to forge stronger ties between College administrators, teaching colleagues and other College personnel. Additionally, Perry is an active participant in organizing and hosting administrative functions that benefit the College. She is widely respected and admired for her abilities and work ethic.

Perry also was recognized for her efforts at SUNY Potsdam in 1997 when she was awarded the President's Award for Excellence in Professional Service. Last year, Perry received the Edward S. Barber Award for Excellence in Professional Service, the highest honor of the SUNY Human Resources Association.

John Lindsey holds the highest rank conferred upon a faculty member in the State University of New York system. The SUNY Distinguished Service Professor. Professor Lindsey has been on the violin faculty at the internationally known Crane School of Music since 1981. In 1993 he was award the SUNY Potsdam President's Award for Excellence in Teaching , in 2003 the prestigious State University of New York Chancellor's Award also for Excellence in Teaching.

In 1973, he was awarded the annual Mozart Award by Wilkes College ( Now King College in Wilkes-Barre, PA) He was recognized by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England. With the 2003 International Musician of the Year Award. and with the Mozart Award for Musical Achievement in the Fall of 2008. In 1989 he was select from over 200 applicants as the winner of the City of Dayton Ohio 's Annual Allegro Residency for the Arts.

Mr. Lindsey is in great demand as a concertmaster, soloist, and chamber musician, as well as teacher, chamber music coach. He is presently the Concertmaster of the ELEVA chamber Players (VT), a string orchestra which play without conductor, and the Orchestra of Northern New York (NY). He has served as concertmaster of the Lexington (KY) Philharmonic Orchestra, The Dallas (TX) Chamber Soloist, The Warren (OH) Chamber Orchestra, the Champlain Valley Symphony Orchestra (NY), the Castle Farm Festival Orchestra (MI), the Belleayre Summer Festival Orchestra (NY), and the Hanover (NH) Chamber Orchestra, In 1973 Mr. Lindsey was Concertmaster of an Orchestra which tour Israel and Jordan. The final concert was given at the Cultural Palace in the Amman for His Majesty King Hussein of Jordan. In 1978 he played chamber music for Prince Philip of England.

Mr. Lindsey has appeared solo recital in many locations. Among them are the Carnegie Recital Hall (twice), Bruon Walter Auditorium in Lincoln Center (five times) as well as in Boston, Montreal, Dallas and in the Chicago on the Dame Myre Hess Series at the Chicago Public Library. Prior to his appointment as the Crane School of Music, Mr. Lindsey was Chairman of String at Baylor University, the Governor's School of North Carolina, and the University of Kentucky. He also taught strings in the Dallas Texas, Publish School. he has been first Violinist of the Aurora Quintet, the Lexington String Quartet, the Quartetto de Camera, the Postdam Piano Quartet, and the Concord Piano Trio. Mr. is listed in eleven national and international Who's Who Publications, among them. Who's Who in American Music , International Who's Who of Intellectuals, The Dictionary of Distinguished Americans, The Cambridge Who's Who, and Who's Who international Music. Professor Lindsey has presented master classes in numerous locations for many years. Since 1994, he has been heavily involved in various capacities with the founding and special nurturing of the string program for

St. Lucia School of Music in the West Indies.

In the Summer, Mr. Lindsey is performing member of the violin faculties of the Ameropa Festival in Prague (CZ), the Adult Chamber Music Conference at Interlochen in Michigan, and the Mozart Festival in Woodstock, Vermont. In previous he was a member of the faculty of the 2008 International Chamber Music Festival and Concert Tour in Bulgaria, the Ithaca Chamber Institute (NY), the National Music Camp at Interlochen (MI), the Illinois Summer Youth Chamber Music Camp(IL), Ottawa Suzuki Institute(KS), the Skaneateles Festival (NY), the Southeastern Music Camp (GA), the Manitou Festival (MI), the Stage de Musique in Marcillat -en-Combraille, France, and the Canna International Music Festivalin Canna, Italy. Mr. Lindsey and his wife Amornrat have founded and International Chamber Music Festival in Thailand, which is held annually in Thailand during the winter holiday season.

this coming summer he has been invited to be on the Artist Faculty of the Vianden International Chamber Music Festival in Lexembourg, Saarburger International Music Festival and School in Germany and to appear in recitals and present master classes both in Thailand and in the People's Republic of China.
